Vision
We envision a world with a thriving commons, where the resources we all depend upon to live have been decommodified and are universally accessible and affordable.
Mission
To scale up the availability of permanently affordable, democratically-governed, shared equity opportunities for land and housing in Hampden, Hampshire, and Franklin Counties. We seek to meaningfully reduce the racialized wealth divide in Western Massachusetts, and better meet individual and community needs.
Aims
Support Community Land Trusts (CLTs) & affordable housing co-ops to emerge & thrive through peer support & resource sharing.
Hold land, ground-leasing it for permanently affordable housing, commercial or community space, or food production in places outside scope, capacity, or service area of an existing CLT. Localize governance where there’s capacity.
Create new shared equity housing units while balancing needs of ecosystems & future generations.
Prioritize exploited communities, working through the lens of resource redistribution, co-creation, reparations, & racial justice.
Collaborate with broader efforts around the solidarity economy, public policy, housing ecosystem, conservation, & local Indigenous sovereignty to leverage our collective power.
